Airport Manager
Friday Harbor Airport
Friday Harbor, San Juan Island, Washington

Compensation Range 2008: $58,000 to $70,000 plus benefits package

The Port of Friday Harbor is accepting applications for the position of Airport Manager. The Friday Harbor Airport is located on San Juan Island in Northwest Washington. It serves a community of 6,000, with a large influx of summer visitors, making it the seventh busiest commercial-service airport in Washington State. The airport is part of the Port of Friday Harbor, which serves San Juan Island. The Port also operates a marina, public parks, a boat launch, and has a number of commercial leases.

The Airport Manager has the overall responsibility for the management of operations and construction projects at the airport. The airport is operated to achieve multiple goals of providing an excellent and safe transportation hub, commercial services, emergency services, and passenger and freight air service while being a good neighbor to the island community. The Airport Manager must establish excellent working relationships with airport tenants both private and commercial, local pilots, representatives of the Federal Aviation Administration and other professional aviation groups, the public of San Juan Island, and airport neighbors.

Qualifications: Requires at least 5 years of progressive management experience in an airport of similar size and type. Requires broad experience in the following areas:
• Airport operations • Lease management
• Airfield and hangar maintenance • Project development and management
• Permitting and grant agencies • Tenant relations
• Community relations • Financial/ business management
 • Commercial airline operations • Environmental regulations
• Personnel management • Knowledge of airspace issues
• Pavement maintenance • Snow removal
• Safety inspections • ARFF
• Airport security • Noise abatement management
• Wildlife management • Airport zoning
• Navigational aids  

This is a full-time, salaried position. Beginning salary is $58,000 to $70,000 per year, depending on experience. The Port of Friday Harbor is an equal opportunity employer.
