President's Report

by Lori Beckman, A.A.E.
January, 1999

Wow . . . 1998 is already gone! What a year for both air carriers and airports! Record air carrier profits and continued mass airport renovations, additions and other construction. The key residual business of 1998 is the status of AIP. Included in this newsletter is a very important resolution and update on this situation.

Big chapter news is that Dave Gordon has resigned his NWAAAE Board position and has started his own Airport Management Consulting business. I am very glad to see that Dave will remain in the aviation industry and wish him the best in his new venture. The Board will vote in March in Salt Lake City on a replacement. It is important that Dave's replacement attend the AAAE Chapter President's Meeting in March in Washington.

If George Larson were to move into the First Vice President position, he would have a conflict with the INAC Presidency and the Northwest Chapter Presidency both hitting in the same year. A recommendation was made to the Executive Committee for Jerry Olson to be voted in as First Vice President. Jerry has been on the AAAE National Board for quite some time and would have the necessary experience to step in. In addition, Jerry is the NWAAAE Candidate for future National Chairs and this would enhance his experience level for progression at a National level later.

The Executive Committee has already recommended Tom Binford (Billings) to replace Dave Gordon on the National Board of Examiners. This position had to be replaced immediately so those individuals in the accreditation process could continue to move forward. In addition, Bruce Goetz has agreed to replace Tom Binford on the AAAE Safety, Security and Technical Services Committee representing the Chapter.

As promised, the mentoring program has been drafted—thanks to Dave Ulane. The Board will review and vote on the proposed program in Salt Lake City March 12, 1999 so that it can be implemented by April 1st.

It has already proven to be an eventful year and there is much more to come!!!
